Street Light Orchestra

SON ET LUMIERE DELIGHTS ///

Imagine a symphony orchestra in front of you....
You dream of stepping onto the stage and drifting amongst the musicians, listening to each of their instruments.

Street Light Orchestra is....
Four street lamps, each of which plays a sound track from a family of instruments: brass, strings, woodwind, percussion. The fifth, in the centre of the installation, presents the work in its entirety with all the instruments gathered as the conductor hears them. The visitor can physically experience the musical work, and move from lamp to lamp to lamp to explore the piece in all its subtleties. The multi-coloured lampshades dazzle and glow in synch with the music.

Music
A series of pieces have been specially recorded by the world touring OSR, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, under the baton of conductor Philippe Béran. Excerpts are from the following works:

Maurice Ravel's Bolero
Hector Berlioz's Symphony of Fantasy Op. 14
Paul Dukas' Wizard Apprentice
Antonín Dvořák's Symphony No. 9 "From the New World"

Impact

Strangers smile easily at each other in this highly sensory environment, while others even start to dance. This lights and music installation can bring to life an underused urban area or create a captivating space in a festival or a square. It’s a great way of introducing classical music to new audiences as well as playing to connoisseurs in an entirely different context. Street Light Orchestra can be enjoyed by people of all ages, cultures and (dis)abilities!
