GENOME is composed of four parallel lines traced in the sky by high power lasers. Each laser is associated with one of the nucleotide bases A, G, C, T. By juxtaposing the Human Referenced Genome sequence with the 1000 Genomes Project variations, we can obtain a representative map of humankind, in all its beauty and diversity.

The genome
In modern molecular biology and genetics a genome is an organism's genetic material. The genome is often compared to an encyclopedia whose different volumes would be the chromosomes.

The 1000 Genomes Project
The 1000 Genomes Project is an international research effort to establish by far the most detailed catalogue of human genetic variation. Scientists have planned to sequence the genomes of at least one thousand anonymous participants from a number of different ethnic groups. The project has been in the production phase since 2010, with the objective to sequence 2000 people. The project data is entirely open source.

Each time a letter A,C,G or T appears in the sequence, the corresponding laser lights up a fraction of a second. When the 1000 Genomes Project variations appear, the associated laser flashes a different colour. The four lasers pulse at great speed, giving substance to this sequence representing humanity. On a screen, the sequence letters and lines scroll at the same rhythm as the lasers.
